Luminate Awarded DOE Three

Luminate has been awarded three separate Matching Orders by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to serve as Independent Engineer. Under the innovative technology loan guarantee program, Luminate is providing independent technical and engineering advisory services to the DOE in support of the loan guarantee applications from Abengoa Solar, Inc., U.S. Geothermal, Inc., and Highlands Ethanol, LLC (a joint venture of BP Biofuels North America LLC and Verenium Corporation).
The three projects include Abengoa Solar’s 250-MW Solana concentrating solar power project employing thermal energy storage; U.S. Geothermal’s 22-MW Neal Hot Springs geothermal power project employing a supercritical, binary power cycle; and Highlands Ethanol’s 36 million gallons per year cellulosic ethanol and thermal energy project employing the Galaxy Biofuels process.
