Power Plants and Greenhouse Gases
Part 1 - Basics
July 1, 2008
The power industry is once again facing an uncertain regulatory future, making it difficult for companies to plan for expansion or to develop strategies for meeting restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions. Several states and regions are developing or on the verge of implementing regulations to curb greenhouse gas emissions, yet the Federal government has made little progress on legislation. How the future Federal legislation will impact state and regional regulations already in existence is uncertain. Research and development of technologies aimed at addressing power plant carbon dioxide emissions span the spectrum from retrofit systems for capturing emissions to new technologies that either reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted or produce a concentrated stream for easier capture.
