Landfill Gas

Technology and Financing Considerations

Electricity and heat production from landfill gas has a fundamental resource advantage over select other renewable energy technologies; it is a base-load resource that is continuously available unlike the intermittent nature of wind and solar. As with other renewable energy sources, landfill gas conversion project owners can take advantage of tax credits, Renewable Energy Certificates and, in certain cases, carbon offsets under greenhouse gas legislation. Special considerations in developing a landfill gas project include the inherent environmental risks associated with landfills and risks associated with varying fuel quantity and quality.
